Description

  • Ferrari itself called it a Luxury Berlinetta and that tells you almost everything. Not because it's luxurious in the modern sense, but because this is a Ferrari that understands speed is only truly meaningful when paired with effortless grand touring comfort. The original brochure put it perfectly: suitable for gentlemen, with comfort appreciated by ladies as well. Quite a statement — and one that still rings true today. The Ferrari 250 GT Lusso debuted at the October 1962 Paris Motor Show and was immediately recognized as something special. Not flamboyant, not loud, but a Ferrari that achieved a rare balance between sportiness and refinement. Pininfarina penned the lines, Scaglietti built the body, and together they created a silhouette that is still widely regarded as one of the most beautiful automotive designs ever produced. A long hood, a relatively short tail, slim pillars, and generous glass area, elegant, light, and perfectly proportioned. As Road & Track famously wrote at the time: no Ferrari road car had ever attracted such lasting admiration for its appearance.Only 350 examples were ever built. This car is chassis number 235, and the story becomes even more remarkable from there. Finished in Avorio over Red, it represents an original Ferrari color combination of which only one example was produced. A true one-of-one specification. Matching numbers are confirmed by the proper documentation, including a Marcel Massini Report and an extensive historical file. This is exactly the pedigree collectors expect at this level and this Lusso delivers in full. The Lusso is built on the short-wheelbase chassis of the 250 GT SWB and shares its mechanical DNA with the legendary GTO. Beneath the long hood sits Gioacchino Colombo's 3.0-liter V12. A compact, all-aluminum twelve-cylinder engine continuously refined since 1947, producing approximately 240 horsepower at 7,500 rpm. Triple Weber carburetors, a manual gearbox, and a top speed of around 150 mph underscore how serious this machine was intended to be, especially when viewed in the context of the early 1960s.What truly defines the Lusso is how seamlessly everything comes together. Steering is precise yet light, and the handling was extraordinary for its era. The gearbox shifts, as Road & Track beautifully described, like stirring a spoon through whipped cream. Disc brakes at all four corners deliver confident stopping power without drama. This is a Ferrari that invites you to drive, and once you accept that invitation, you'll want to repeat the experience again and again. That, in essence, is the Lusso experience. One particularly important highlight of this example is its interior. Beautifully original, it wears its patina with pride. A rare and compelling reminder of authenticity. Unrestored interiors of this caliber are seldom encountered today, and the character they convey is impossible to replicate. It is genuinely impressive. Beyond that, this Ferrari remains in exceptional condition throughout, exterior, interior, and mechanical, exactly as one would expect from a car of this stature. The Ferrari 250 GT Lusso marked the final chapter of the legendary 250 series and what a finale it was. This is not a car you buy simply because it is rare. You buy it because every element feels right. And this particular example with its unique factory color specification, original interior, and comprehensive documentation represents a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.Interested in this extraordinary Ferrari?
